Who You Are: I was born in 1971 and got my 1963 sprite in 1998. Got the bug from my brother Dave, (also on the list) who would never let me drive his MkIII, so I just had to get my own. It has a rebuilt 1098 (10CC type) containing slightly wider bores, a cam ground to 731 factory specs. It breathes in through standard HS2@ S.U's and out through an LCB extractor. I assembled the engine myself which was loads of fun and rewarding to do. I'm a scientist (chemistry) by profession but only just finished university and nobody has been game enough to employ me yet!

Who You Are: I'm a 46 year old business manager for a wholesale distributor. In 1972 I was living in Vernon, British Columbia and a friend decided to start racing a '65 Sprite. A short time later another '65 came up for sale and I bought it. It was in pretty rough shape even though it was not very old and it soon inherited most of the first race engine. I went on to spend lots of money on BL performance parts and thoroughly enjoyed many slaloms and even the occasional ice race! Then came marriage etc and in '76 the Sprite turned into the down payment for our first house. Fast forward to 1991and a chance Sunday drive to Bragg Creek, a small town in the foothills west of Calgary. Parked beside the road with a For Sale sign was a bright yellow Midget. Had to stop and check it out. 35,000 miles???? Can't be. Well maybe. The interior was like new and the body showed no signs of rust (even in the driver's footwell) and the fridge magnet test revealed only a small patch of body filler in the hood. The paint job (it was orange originally) left a lot to be desired but it easily passes the 30 ft test. The owner had purchased a brand new top when the local dealer BL was closing so that was a bonus. My first priority was to have fun as soon as possible so the front A arms had to be replaced. With that done and a little regular maintenance, she ran well till the summer of '97 when the clutch expired. I could not bring myself to pull the engine and not breath a little fire into it like the "good old days" so it came apart in February of '98. New pistons, cam, valves, dizzy, a little head work, balanced, new headers and other misc. stuff and fired it up on September 20th. What a treat. Way more torque than what I remember from my previous 1098. I now NEED 5.5" rims and new tires and then I will try a few slaloms again. I plan to attend Britfest which will be held this year in Fairmont B.C. in June and hope to make it to Rally in The Valley in Vernon in July. Who You Are: I'm a lawyer who practices labour relations and employment law on behalf of management and who was very distraught to discover a number of years ago that what I thought of as "sports cars" were by then "vintage racers". My first ride in a sports car was in a Bugeye in 1959 when I was in grade 9 and taken to my first sports car race at a disused Commonwealth Air Training Program airfield which probably explains why in a "midlife crisis" instead of changing wives or chasing 17 yearolds I bought my bugeye one day at lunchtime.I promptly discovered that when there are already two cars and only a single car garage the purchase of a sprite that will henceforth occupy the garage results in an immediate cessation of verbal communication from ones spouse, a situation which is not improved by the joyful reaction of two young sons to daddy's little car. Both marriage and sprite survived,kids survived having a set of rear springs and other parts added to their luggage on a trip home from England and have stopped asking,"Dad, there are two of us but only one little white car. Which one of us are you going to leave it to when you die?" Marriage further survived the appearance in the front hall of a 3'x2' mounted poster print of the car just before the guests arrived on Dec. 5 /98 to celebrate the 40th anniversary of the car's production date. However there remains an annual dispute about the hardtop in the summer:Dad's appreciation of the fact it prevents sunburn through thinning hair vs teanagers desire for maximum air and sun.

Who You Are: I am a Purchasing Agent for a small company in San Leandro, CA who makes and sells aircraft jet engine parts for the USAF. I have owned only three LBC's among my many "wheeled toys". My first was a '68 Ford Cortina 1600 Deluxe (maybe an MBC?) that I spent a year going through the engine, tranny and electrics. It got totaled two weeks later. Next was a '62 MK II Sprite with Aluminum Olds V8 & Powerglide. It needed more help than I could give it at the time. I bought my current '64 MKII more on emotion than common sense and after I got my prize home found a lot more than I bargained for. I am determined to get it rebuilt and bring it back to life. At least I was able to drive it for about 2 years before numerous problems forced a complete teardown. Hopefully before 2000 Herbytoy will live again!

Who You Are: I work 7 days a week for Burlington Northern Santa Fe Railroad as an engineer. Not much time to work on my restoration, but it will get done. Have owned seven Bugeyes since 1971. My first was a running example with 3 tops including the factory hardtop for $150.00, oh, for the good old days. I've also owned 3 MGBs, a TR3, an MGA, a Ford Cortina and lots of parts cars. I have a wife and 2 children, a house with a two car garage (Mercedes on one side-bugeye on the other-my other two cars stay outside) I am a member of Austin Healey Club USA, Austin Healey Club of America and locally the Austin Healey Club of Southern California. My inspiration for My Bugeye restoration came from Rob Garofalo, whom I met through an article in British Car Magazine, gave him a call and asked if I could photograph his car. That was back in 1994, we've been friends since then. He's why I joind the local club. He was president then. I feel the same way Rob does, you do not do this for gain, you do this for fun and to pass some knowledge or info on to someone else who has your feelings and passion for this hobby.

Who You Are: This is my second Spridget. For 4 years or so, a 1974 Midget was my sole transportation when I was living in Guildford (Surrey, England) and working in London. It was an unwise purchase, as it gradually disintegrated on me over the years. It was, however, still great fun! Hence the reason I sought out a rust free example when I moved to the States. My current car was purchased from an ex-colleague who removed the engine 15 years ago to replace the clutch, and decided to perform some minor restoration "wheil he was at it"! I bought it from him, as (literally) a box of bits, for $600 3 years ago and have been fiddling with it ever since. It's finally legal and driveable (but still not very pretty). My current daily driver is a 1987 Jaguar XJ6 (which also demands some of my time and engineering skills!)

Who You Are: My first LBC was a 1969 Triumph GT6+. Rusted rockers and needed a brake rebuild. Loved the car but had to get rid of it to pay for college. Lust for LBC's was latent until I got rid of an anti-LBC wife and bought the Midget. Wasn't looking for a Midget but it popped up at the right price and I took it home to nurse it back to health. Now, three and a half years later it sits in the garage with a blown head gasket due to overheating. Before that happened I put 1,000 miles on the car and love it. This spring I'll be on the road again minus the wire wheels and ace carb.
